ABOUT US

Pastor Josephus P. Browne is a man of God who cares deeply about the children of Liberia.  He and his wife Bellah P. Browne founded the Christian institution called Browne Academy Ministries on April 20th, 2006 in Monrovia, Liberia.

The Ministry includes a school for the community with attendance of 500 children.  Our mission is to love, nurture, and educate children whose lives have been affected by war or other natural disaster. Our hearts were burdened when we saw children on the streets unsupervised, sometimes lacking parents.  The Ministry use the school to develop friendships with the children, mentor them, and foster their relationships with Jesus Christ.

We hope to have a positive impact on our community and country by reaching out to children in need so that the children can become productive adult Liberian citizens. We hope that the church and government in Liberia can complement each other's efforts to develop the manpower that our country needs to flourish.  The students are also taught the word of God so that they can also become members of God's kingdom.  The elementary school serves children from age 2-14 in nursery school through 6th grade.  While the students are on campus they  are fed so they can concentrate on their studies and not their hunger. The Brownes dream of the day when they will have the resources to develop a Girl's Institute high school to train girls from age 14-18.  This will allow young women to have respectful work and not turn to the streets for income.

The Brownes have invested their lives in caring for orphans.  Currently the ministry serves 10 orphans.  Pastor Browne and his wife have taken five children into their own home.  Two other families house five other children and the ministry supplies food for these families and children.  If the ministry is able to raise the necessary funds they would like to help other homeless children who lost parents in the war.  They hope to build an orphanage when resoures become available.

Since 2011, the ministry has operated a medical clinic that has treated over five thousand children. The clinic is available for about 15,000 inhabitants, mostly women and children who can not afford to pay their medical bills. Our clinic is the major private clinic that is active in the Johnsonville Township, Liberia.  We also promote preventative community health through education on hygiene and sanitation.  We teach people to have a clean environment and safe drinking water and latrines.  Our work has been affected by the Ebola outbreak.  Our nurses are afraid to treat adequately because they lack protective gear, gloves, chlorine, hand sanitizer and essential drugs, and there is a lack of funds to pay them.

To date most of the support for these projects has come from the personal finances of Pastor Josephus P. Browne, unpaid volunteers, and local sources. Our country is suffering greatly now because of the Ebola outbreak.  For these successful labors of love in our community to continue we need to raise support from different sources.  It is heartbreaking to see the needs and not have the needed resources to help our fellow citizens.  Our financial resources are exhausted, but our will to survive and serve continues.  It is our intension to make a difference in the lives of the children and families of Liberia by seeing that they are provided with the tools they need to thrive.  We will remain here in this unsafe environment to do God's work. Will you join us by helping to for our brothers and sisters in Christ?
